Blog Post # 3.

If you were a voting American, who would you vote for in the up-coming Presidential Election? Defend your selection with specific points from each of the candidates platforms.

In U.S upcoming election, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are running for President. If I were a voting American, I would vote for Barack Obama. The reason for my choice is due to his platform for the country. Barack Obama is planning on increasing access and affordability for health care. He is trying to put American families first by guaranteeing them “Obamacare.” Mitt Romney has fought back saying that he would revoke this benefit if he were to be President. I believe that a reasonable health care is very important for American citizens because most families have troubles paying health care bills. As a Canadian, I am very fortunate that I am guaranteed free health care and I believe that this would be a positive solution for Americans.

How does the death of America’s Ambassador to Libya impact the Arab spring movement?

Due to the unfortunate death of America’s Ambassador to Libya, the Arab spring conflict has become an even bigger issue in the world today. Ambassador J. Christopher Steven was killed in Benghazi by Islamic extremists in response to a video, which was posted by an American, mocking their Prophet Muhammad. The salafists were previously planning an attack on the U.S and used this video as their perfect opportunity. Not only was the Ambassador murdered, but also the U.S Embassy and flag were burned down. This fuels a bigger fire in the Arab spring because Libya has lost the support of the U.S. They aided Libya in overthrowing their dictator, Muammar Qaddafi and allowed Libya to become a democratic nation. Unfortunately, they did not see the U.S’s contributions as a positive contribution, but as a threat to their country. The American video has irritated the Arab spring movement and has created a bigger problem between the U.S and the Arab nation.
